Hawk!

As I got home from my run today in the late afternoon, close to sunset, I saw several squirrels scurrying away (fleeing in fear?) from the lawn behind our apartment.  There was a hawk!  It was pretty gruesome.  The hawk was contentedly tearing into a dead bird.  I got pretty close (maybe 10 feet away) in taking this video, but the hawk didn't seem bothered by my presence.

Baylands Preserve yet again

It has been a while since we had gone out for a walk.  We went to the Baylands Preserve again around sunset, but taking a different walk in the area.  It was low tide so there was a lot more exposed mud.  There was even what we termed "duck highway" - a little flowing stream for the ducks to get from one pool of water to another.

The birds were amazingly unfazed by the planes taking off and landing, calming feeding even as a loud helicopter flew overhead.

Birds!

The sprinklers had just gone off, leaving puddles in the yard outside our
apartment. Birds (mostly American Robins I think) seem to love
splashing and bathing in and around the puddles. It seems that the
purpose of bathing is to maintain their plumage. They had so much fun,
they ignored my presence only a few feet away.

Lions!

We were amongst the gawking tourists at the Lion Exhibit in MGM, Las Vegas.  Apparently lions don't do much but sit and sleep on top of the clear tunnel that links to the gift shop.  I wonder if the lions are bothered by the camera flashes, which can be seen in the last few seconds of this clip.
