Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen : 2/5

It was a pretty bad movie and the battle scenes (other than the last climatic battle between the good and the bad robots, which went by in a flash) dragged on for way too long and were monotonous.  And the story just didn't make any sense!  I spent most of the movie doing some ironing and some work on the laptop.  Yes.  It was that boring and senseless.

Push : 3.5/5

Push had horrible reviews, and didn't do all that well in the box office.  But surprisingly, I really enjoyed the movie.  It was exciting, since we really didn't know what was going to happen (unlike Wolverine, which was completely predictable).  The action scenes were good and more grounded because there was little CGI employed.  And having it set and filmed in Hong Kong makes it cooler too.  And in terms of acting, only Camilla Belle, as Kira, stuck out as being horribly anemic and boring.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine : 3/5

It was an OK action/ comicsuperhero movie.  It was pretty generic and not all that exciting - since we know what is going to happen, given that it is a presequel + origin story.  At least I was entertained.  That's probably because Hugh Jackman takes his role as Wolverine very seriously, and Liev Schreiber was good as his snarling brother.

Crank 2: High Voltage : 2.5/5

I guess we picked this movie to watch because of the presence of Jason Statham and we had vague memories of the first movie.  This is the type of role that suits him the best.  He has to play it such that he is completely serious, otherwise the movie would just fall apart.  The movie is just too over the top and bizarre.  But I guess that's the whole point.

Watchmen : 2.5/5

I am not sure what to make of this movie.  I think it was way too long - lots of setup and things that don't quite make sense (all probably explained in the comic series source).  I have not read the comic, so maybe it would have been a better movie for those who already know what's going on.  It was also too grisly and gruesome for me.  But at least it made me interested enough to want to read the comic series at some point.

Adventureland : 4/5

Loved this movie. We picked this DVD up from a rental kiosk at the
supermarket. I wouldn't say it was a groundbreaking movie, but I
haven't watched such a breezy and sweet movie in a while. Kristen
Stewart is surprisingly good as the edgy girl-of-interest. I also
liked that the comedic bits were not overdone, and there's no real
villain. Also not forgetting the cool 80s music...

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince : 3/5

I was rather disappointed by the movie so I wished my initial expectations were lower.  The movie dragged at bits - I was half falling asleep.  I think the main problem was that nothing much happened in the movie.  A lot of it was just the set up for the last 2 movies of the series.  The lovey dovey bits with Lavender and Ron were just plain silly.  The main bright spot was Alan Rickman's nuanced take on Professor Snape.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button : 4/5

I liked the movie.  It was all very beautifully filmed, and despite the title, I think Daisy, played by Cate Blanchet is the central character.  Her luminosity simply shines through even as she ages.  Brad Pitt, unfortunately, didn't quite make me feel for his character.  He plays it too cool and distant maybe.  And also, there isn't enough of a sense that he is young man trapped in a an old man's body or later, a young man with years of experience behind him.

Eu-Jin questions, "What is this movie saying?"  Ultimately, we are not quite sure if there's a deeper message other than everything changes.

Last Chance Harvey : 3/5

Sweet little romantic comedy starring Dustin Hoffman and Emma Thompson.  Sure, it is almost by-the-numbers movie making, but London is pretty and the acting is top notch.  You just have to believe that it is possible to fall in love in a day...

In Bruges : 3/5

I am not sure what to say about this movie.  The first hour or so of the movie is quite good.  What happens when a hit goes wrong, and the hitmen have to lie low in a foreign country?  The acting was great too.  Colin Farrell, Brendan Gleeson and Ralph Fiennes were all memorable in their roles.  I also liked the touches of humor in the situation.  But then, I was quite disappointed in the farcical ending, so I can't really recommend the movie.
